I believe in teamwork as the most effective approach to organizational leadership and human development. I am pleased with my Challenge Program experiences, and hope that others will be similarly satisfied.

Philosophy Behind The Challenge:

Taking risks and having fun are time-proven mechanisms for breaking down barriers and providing opportunities for growth. The ropes course setting provides an opportunity for groups and individuals to learn about themselves and address personal, interpersonal, and organizational issues. Each team member brings a unique personality and style of communication that contributes to the dynamics of a team. Team members discover how vital individual contributions are to the success of the team. Participants have an opportunity to reflect on their team-building adventure and apply their experience to everyday life.

Take The U of A Challenge:

This program can help you focus on important organizational, group and individual goals as you define them. A facilitated process combines action and reflection to open the door to discovery and understanding. Exciting experiential opportunities can focus on leadership, team-building, problem-solving, communication, self-awareness and self-esteem, social and individual wellness, as well as other issues.

You can learn more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation.

The Ropes Course:
The UACP has a state-of-the-art Ropes Course designed to accommodate both day and night-time programming. The course consists of low and high elements with two of the high elements constructed to be wheelchair accessible. "Low elements" are physical structures built low to the ground which provide a backdrop for various challenges and initiatives. "High elements" are structures that require the participants to negotiate obstacles and meet challenges high above ground. The elements, props and recreational field space provide a venue for an unlimited number of challenges. Programs will be designed to meet both specific and general needs of the group.

Safety:
All equipment and procedures conform to industry standards. It is important to note that the perceived risk is far greater than the actual risk. Even so, to maximize safety and the potential for learning, all initiatives and activities are based on a “Challenge by Choice” philosophy. This means that individuals and groups will be encouraged to try new things and stretch beyond their comfort zone. However, all participants will ultimately determine their own level of participation.
