Locations:
All programs will be held at The University of Arizona Student Recreation Center located at the corner of Sixth Street and Highland.

Application:
Registration is at the Campus Recreation Business Office (located on the second floor of the Student Recreation Center), Monday through Friday from 8:00 am - 6:00 pm.

Junior Lifeguard Training (Jr. LGT)

Jr. LGT teaches lifesaving techniques and other water safety skills. Participants will work on physical fitness and practice lifeguarding skills in preparation for apprentice lifeguarding towards the end of the program.

Lifeguard Training (LGT)

Lifeguard Training focuses on the job of the lifeguard in a swimming pool environment. Emphasizes victim recognition, surveillance, and equipment-based rescues and includes first aid and CPR for the professional rescuer.

Open to:

Anyone 15 years or older. Participants must be able to swim 500 yards continually using the following strokes: front crawl, breaststroke, sidestroke, and elementary backstroke. The cost includes required books needed for the course.

Water Safety Instructor (WSI)

Water Safety Instructor prepares instructors to teach progressive swimming (infant/pre-school through Level VII), AQUAKtic Safety, Longfellow's Whales Tales, and Community Water Safety.

Open to:

Ages 17 and older. Participants must pass a pre-test consisting of Level I swimming skills. The cost includes required books needed for the course.

Water Safety Instructor Aide (WSI-A)

Water Safety Instructor Aide provides training for individuals who wish to assist water safety instructors in conducting American Red Cross swimming and water safety courses, particularly lifeguards who do not meet the minimum age requirements for the Water Safety Instructor course, but would like to further their water safety training.

Open to:

Ages 10 and up, who possess a strong sense of maturity and responsibility and can demonstrate all skills listed as completion requirements for Level IV of the Red Cross Learn to Swim program. The cost includes required books needed for the course.
